Walter Payton was the greatest running back of his era in the NFL and thought of by most as one of the greatest of all time. His time on earth was cut very short, passing away at just 45, as he was struck down by a rare disease. At one time held the league's record for most career rushing yards, touchdowns, carries, yards from scrimmage, all-purpose yards, and many other categories. He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1993 and was a 2-time NFL MVP. That iconic photo of Walter Payton running up a hill comes from his intense off-season training at Nickol Knoll in Arlington Heights, Illinois, a former landfill now a golf course, known as "Payton's Hill". The steep incline was a grueling test of will, and photos capture Payton conquering it, symbolizing his legendary work ethic and determination.
