The numbers are overwhelming: Seven national championships (and counting). A 47-game winning streak. Twenty-four bowl victories. Four Heisman Trophy winners. Dozens of All-Americans. Countless statistical milestones.
But the numbers alone don’t do justice to the impact that Oklahoma football has had and continues to have on its legion of fans. What takes place on the storied playing surface of Owen Field is more than simply a game; it’s a way of life.
Sooner coach Bob Stoops put it this way after OU captured the 2000 national championship: "Our players recognize the history of Oklahoma is about winning championships. We already had six national championships. Now, we have seven. You can't say, 'Well that was then, this is now.' This is Oklahoma football."
Game Day Oklahoma Football is a celebration of the Sooner Spirit, and of the decades of gridiron excellence that have inspired it.
